How to cut onions without crying

I think everyone has heard so many ideas about how to do this. For me the only one that works it to top and tail the onion, remove the skin, then soak it in a bowl of water for 10 minutes.

Yep, as easy as that and it works every time.

I find if I keep the onions in the fridge and cut them cold I don't have any trouble. I heard somewhere that the cold traps the fumes of the onion so you when you cut it it doesn't release the smell. Or something like that. :) But it works.

I keep mine in the fridge too, but I still have the problems ^_^ Maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

Gas is released from the root bulb when cut, no matter what the temperature of the onion. each onion varies in gas level. cut a cone shaped core from the bottom of the onion removing the entire bulb, thus removing the gas as well.
